Therapeutic ~ Relaxation ~ Swedish Massage

What is a Relaxation/Therapeutic/Swedish Massage?

It is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being.
You will have a long, luxurious massage which will use all kinds of techniques including long strokes, gentle kneading and
rolling of skin and muscle, and perhaps some rhythmic rocking from side to side. It is a passive treatment. This is the massage to
choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled.

In my sessions I also include hot stones for the back. This is deeply relaxing and also loosens the back muscles.

Deep Tissue Massage  ~ Trigger Point Therapy

What is Deep Tissue Massage?  Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle
and fascia, also called connective tissue. This type of massage is used for certain types of pain and chronic muscle tension. It is
designed for those with chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and
concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

What is Trigger Point Therapy?  Trigger point therapy is also called myofascial trigger point.  A technique involves the applying
of pressure to muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. During this type of therapy, the
massage and trigger point therapy are performed together. It is a subset of neuromuscular therapy, which examines and treats
muscles and muscle attachments in layers from superficial to deep, ligaments and connective tissues.

Pregnancy Massage

Therapeutic massage has been used for centuries to improve overall health, reduce stress, and relieve muscle tension. Pregnant
women have often received ambivalent responses from the health community regarding the safety and purpose of massage during
pregnancy. Research is proving that prenatal massage therapy can be a very instrumental ingredient in women’s prenatal care
and should be given consideration.

Women can begin massage therapy at any point in their pregnancy – during the first, second, or third trimester.  As with any
therapeutic approach to pregnancy wellness, women should discuss massage with their prenatal care provider.

Swedish Massage is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common
discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy.

Reiki ~ Energy Healing and  Chakra Re Balancing

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word representing universal life energy. It aims  to renew and refresh your energy flow,
encouraging healing and increasing your sense of well-being.

Healing is very much a holistic modality with the belief that health is not just being free of symptoms of disease, but includes the
spiritual, emotional, mental and physical harmony of the whole person. The healer acts as a channel for universal healing
energies.

Reiki is a very gentle spiritual treatment that should leave you feeling relaxed and calm. It is not a faith-based treatment,
however it is important that you are open and willing to receive and benefit from the treatment if you are going to get the most
out of it.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a very gentle, hands on manipulation that allows the therapist to access the core nervous system in an
unobtrusive manner. Inside the lining of the head is a membrane system, called the dura membrane system, which also extends
downward into the lining of the spinal cord and connects to the sacrum. Hence the name cranial for cranium and sacrum for
sacrum. Inside the lining of this membrane system, which is only about as thick as a newspaper on end, flows the cerebral spinal
fluid or csf. The motion of this fluid is able to be felt anywhere on the body. As I palpate, or listen to your CranioSacral rhythm, I
am able to tell where there are restrictions, or areas that are less mobile, and where the body is more mobile and less restricted.
As I listen at specific points on the body, I am drawn to areas that would like to be released, or made less restricted or more
mobile. I then use specific techniques which release restrictions and help bring the body into greater balance. The CranioSacral
therapy practitioner uses a light touch to assist the natural movement of fluid within the CranioSacral system. Therapists
generally use only 5 grams of pressure, roughly the weight of a nickel, to test for restrictions in various parts of the CranioSacral
system. The result is greater relaxation, more balance in mind and body, and a restoration to greater health and well being.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork. The word shiatsu means "finger pressure", and shiatsu is sometimes described as a
finger pressure massage.  The goal of Shiatsu is to restore the balance of energy in the body. The part of Shiatsu and acupuncture
believe that disease and physical infirmities are caused by imbalances or blockages in the flow of energy through the body. This
energy is called “ki” which flows through the body along meridians or energy channels. Practitioners strive for a balance between
Yin (negative energy) and Yang (positive energy) and attempt to determine where there may be a build up of energy or an energy
deficiency. Either will cause problems.
